HUTCHINSON –This website will be off the air over the weekend so a talented young man sitting in Belgium named Chief “Tengu” Huijskes can update the software and redesign The Effort. It’s the first redesign since Hutchinson’s own Logicmaze built it for me four years ago, and it’s time. So it will be down Saturday and Sunday, and back in gear on Monday.

Everyone wants to know why the Reno County transportation director abruptly quit her job following a closed-door session with the county commissioners a short while back. Things were rolling along for her and RCAT, including the construction of a million dollar bus-barn that isn’t quite as nice as Caesar’s Palace in Vegas but on par with the Harrah’s outside of Topeka.
I don’t know the answer, but I do have a question: Why does everyone believe she “quit”? Because the government, fresh from conducting its business from behind locked doors, rose from its exalted chambers to announce the lady had “resigned.”?
I’ve seen these, er, “resignations,” before. I was even party to one, once. Years and years ago I had a brand new publisher invite me and the cartoonist into his office to inform us that cartoonists and columnists we were both “luxuries” the paper could no longer afford.
