with "a dog named Weenie."

Letter Writer: Kansas Woman Among Those Who Want to "Purify" Republican Party
    NEW- Letters to Editor
    Written by Tyler, Hutchinson
    Nov 25, 2009 at 08:56 AM

HUTCHINSON -- To the Editor: Given your recent blog, I thought your readers might be interested in this story from yesterday’s Wall Street Journal.Tyler
    Hutchinson

It’s about a plan by the Republican National Conservative Caucus (Kansas is represented by Topeka audiologist Helen Van Etten) to punish Republican candidates who fail to live up to the group‘s conservative ideals by withholding campaign funds.

It ought to cut the party‘s base in half if it is adopted

Here‘s a couple of ver batin paragraphs from the article. It also lists the 10 issues at the end.

To read the WSJ article, clck here

“.Conservative Republican Party activists want to withhold money from GOP candidates who stray too far from party orthodoxy.

Ten Republican National Committee members are distributing a plan to impose a purity test – calling for money to be withheld from anyone who disagrees with conservative principles on more than two of 10 core issues.

Among the required stances: oppose President Barack Obama’s health care and cap-and-trade proposals as well as his stimulus plan; reject government funding for abortion; vote “no” on legislation to help unions organize; and support keeping the Defense of Marriage Act.”

Moran Needs to Talk With `Everyday folks'
    NEW- Letters to Editor
    Written by Guest, Hutchinson
    Nov 24, 2009 at 04:24 AM

    HUTCHINSON -- To the Editor:

Could somebody, please, get Moran to stop sneaking in and out of town. He knows that there are plenty of us that want to have a pow-wow with him.

His voting with Pelosi on SCHIP, his friendship with huge pharma, insurance, and hospital groups … ALL of this should be open for discussion.

Why is he so determined to NOT talk with everyday folks?

He's taking no chances on talking with REAL conservatives.  Because he is not one. I'm not sure what he is, but conservative he AIN'T!

Goldwater Would Never Have Allowed the Right Wing to Surrender to Terrorists
    Opinion & Editorial
    Written by By Dwight Jurgens

ImageThere was a time I understood America’s fanatical right-wing. I never agreed with it or its practitioners, but I understood it.

I guess I’d have to go back to Barry Goldwater to make those opening statements true. Goldwater’s picture should permanently accompany the word “conservative” in any reliable dictionary. He was honest, straight-forward and his opinions and thoughts never waivered or changed from the first time he shared them. There wasn’t a hypocritical bone in the man’s body.

But the Goldwater days are gone. They’ve since been replaced by pretenders like Ronald Reagan -- who actually convinced fellow conservatives that spending money you didn’t have was a perfectly acceptable way to conduct their lives -- and Richard Nixon -- who got to the White House on a single campaign theme: Democrats are bad.

The entire Republican party changed with Nixon, in that it decided to no longer think. It no longer talks about Republicans and issues -- it talks about Democrats.

Pick your poison: from FOX News to Rush to Bill O’Reilly, it’s all about the Democrats and why they’re bad. Thoughtful conservatives, to this day, look back in anger at the selection of John McCain as their Republican candidate for president, but they’ve only themselves to blame.

Bill Bornholdt Passing a Loss for All of Us
    NEW- Letters to Editor
    Written by Guest Contributor
    Nov 19, 2009 at 08:57 AM

To the Editor: Bill (Bornholdt) passed away yesterday morning at home. His funeral is tomorrow at 2 PM, at Elliott’s.

I learned what courage is from Bill and his wife. His enthusiasm for causes NEVER slowed down. You ALWAYS knew what he thought. When others might have crumbled and folded after the deaths of their children, they kept going, right through the tears.

Their support for the Veterinary School at Kansas State was immense. His service to our country was a shining light. ( He retired out as a Major!)

Bill, we will miss you terribly, but as his darling wife says, "He's with our boys now."
Somehow we will go on. But a great light has gone.

A cherry friend, a daunting enemy, a passable golfer (oops!) a loving husband, a damned good teacher, an honest man.
